While my plans described in Haley2024 reduces government further than Levin's proposed amendments, I fully endorse the direction in which his ideas will lead this country.  Currently, the government possess too much power, all in one area.

Mark Levin is purposing several amendments to the Constitution, the first is term limits in both the House and Senate of 12 years. This is the best way to keep power from collecting in the hands of a few in DC. If Congressmen and Senators are only in office for 12 years they won't be as beholden to special interests and political actions groups since they aren't as worried about re-election.

His second proposed amendment is repealing the 17th Amendment and going back to the original practice of state legislators electing Senators. This amendment would give power back to the states and make Senators more accountable to their states.

His third proposed amendment is about judicial tyranny.  Today, courts have more power than was ever imagined by the Founders and they weigh in on major social policies. To return balance to the system, judges will be limited to one 12 year term and both Congress and state legislators will be able to overrule court decisions with a vote of three-fifths of both houses of Congress or state legislative bodies. This is in line with the system of checks and balances created by the Founders to keep power from the hands of a few lifetime appointment judges.

His fourth proposal is a balanced budget amendment that would limit spending to 17.5% of GDP and requiring a three-fifths vote to raise the debt ceiling.  The amendment also calls for a flat tax of 15%, prohibits any other taxes, and makes the filing deadline one day before the next federal election. This would drastically reduce the amount of money the federal government is controlling and shrink the size of government.

His fifth proposal would create a sunset provision for every federal regulation and department, meaning every three years all regulations and departments would have to justify their continued existence. This would increase accountability by forcing Senators and Congressmen to go on the record as to exactly which regulations and departments they support. Every three years each Senator and Congressman would have to vote yes or no on every aspect of the federal government.

His sixth proposal is a clarification of the Commerce Clause in the Constitution that makes it clear that the Commerce Clause does not give unlimited power to the federal government to regulate any economic activity. But rather, it is to be used to prevent states from interfering with commerce between states. This would reduce the federal government to the level intended by the Founders.

His seventh proposal is about reducing government's power of eminent domain, both federal, state, and local. As we've seen with cases, such as Kelo v City of New London, the government's use of eminent domain has become little more than crony capitalism and far exceeds the Founder's original vision of the power.

His eight proposal is really the key to all the other amendments. State legislatures can bypass Congress and amend the Constitution directly, without a convention, and by a two-thirds majority. This amendment will make all the other amendments possible as it bypasses the obviously corrupt Congress and returns power to the states.

His ninth proposal is similar to the eighth and says that two-thirds of the state legislatures can override any law passed by Congress. These two amendments are based on the fact that the Congress derives its powers from the states and govern only by their consent.

The tenth and final amendment says that every voter in federal elections must show a photo ID to vote. It also limits early voting.

These proposed amendments embody the beliefs and views of our Founders by returning power to the states. It is time to end the tyranny of the federal government, legislative, executive, and judicial. As a candidate for the Virginia state senate I am 100% behind these amendments and will do my best as a senator to see them enacted.
