About Bill Haley
FamilyI am a family man and a Christian conservative. I take pride in my hard work and have always strived to lend others a helping hand. As the sole provider for my household for twenty years, I had the benefit and blessing of my wife, Ruth, staying at home to raise and educate our children. Ruth recently graduated (2013) with a bachelor's degree and was a Registered Nurse at a local Children's Hospital. Ruth is now an RN with a local Home Health company.

I have experience in the real world. I understand the need to rely on family: the smallest governmental unit. In leading a family, I have dealt extensively with health care, academics, and communicating with the younger generation.
I have been married to my wife Ruth for 30 years. I have three grown daughters: Kelly, Katie, and Courtney. Ruth and I home-schooled our daughters from Kindergarten through high school. All of my girls have now graduated with college degrees. |
A Constant Learner
In the mid-nineties, I began a study habit that has continued to this day. I started by studying constitutional law for several years at a pace of over ten hours per week. Later, I studied education policy. Currently and for the past many years, I study over twenty hours a week on various policies, reading and listening to the best in their fields give speeches and seminars. The more I learn, the more I am convinced that there is too much to know for a few to govern the lives of the many. Writing on these subjects forces me to research, outline, study deeply, and justify my point of view.

I have been politically active over the last twenty years. I have been a delegate to several political conventions. I have helped campaigns for countless hours over the years. I have run for office four times, learning valuable lessons on each occasion. In 2002, I had a great learning experience as I was a candidate for the Chesapeake City Council where new issues were debated. In 2013, 2015, and 2017, I ran for state legislative office.

In my community, I have coached many seasons of soccer, football, basketball, and baseball over many age groups.
I have been a chief or other election official for the Registrar office for ten elections. |

January 2015 my daughter made our family proud, expanding our family. Although I did not get to raise a son, we are honored to add a son-in-law to the family. In 2020, my twins married wonderful men.
