Foreign Policy: Pockets of Freedom
The Bible speaks of God commanding the appointment of six cities of refuge in the 20th chapter of Joshua. Much of the world's people live in oppression and need a place of escape. The United States cannot properly handle that level of immigrants so it is logical to find new lands in which to establish freedom, security, and liberty.

Acquire Land
The U.S. would begin aggressively acquiring land around the world in fair and equitable trades, or through seizure if the USA had to liberate a country from oppressive governments which also created a threat to the USA. We would try to acquire land that is mostly unpopulated as to reduce the long time feuds.
|
Hire Governors
Many of America’s governors and mayors and other freedom loving, experienced political personal in all three branches of government would be hired to help govern these areas. The governors would have ample authority to eliminate forces that are undermining freedom and liberty. Many systems would be tried to all for the greatest amount of freedom and a quickly developed society.
|
Establish Local Citizenship
These new immigrants or the few natives would not be U.S. citizens, just the citizens of the new territory they live in. Citizenship will come slowly through a lengthy, step-by-step process, as to ensure troublemakers can be expelled. This will also allow new immigrants to become accustomed to freedom and learn how to use their vote to support it.
|
Bring Military
Each territory would pay five percent of their GDP in taxes for the protection of our military. The military would recruit from within but remain segregated in some ways as well. Many U.S. bases around the world would relocate to these areas so that the military would not have to grow.
|
Allow for Free Trade
Capitalism is the reflection of freedom and liberty in the marketplace. Capitalism needs rule of law and protection from hostile military or domestic forces in order to thrive. The military and police force will ensure this. Governors and others will recruit many corporations to invest in and locate new factories in these new places. No trade barriers would be allowed.
With proper protection, corporations would feel comfortable investing in these new areas, therefore bringing jobs and expertise to these new territories. |

A Note on Nation BuildingMany times, we have seen nation building have negative effects for recently failed nations. Much of this was due to changing a very large population with established cultures and very entrenched corruption. Pockets of Freedom is different because it begins with a very small or even nonexistent population. Moreover, former American governors would be in charge and have the power to remove forces that are a threat to liberty.
The expectation would be many dozens of territories with populations above one million within ten years. Lessons learned, both good and bad, would guide the future structure for pockets of freedom. When countries start losing large amounts of people, they would likely reform as to stop the loss of their citizens. |
